BCBS offers several different plans, each of which is unique in the scope of coverage that it offers. We encourage you to take some time to learn the details of your specific policy.

In the meantime, here is a general overview of the coverage that is often available through BCBS PPO plans:

Preventive care (cleanings, exams, routine X-rays, etc.) is often 100% covered. In other words, you may be able to get these services for nothing out of pocket!
Minor services (fillings and other relatively simple procedures) are frequently around 80% covered.
Major treatments (dentures, crowns, some types of oral surgery, etc.) may be around 50% covered.

Keep in mind that not all plans apply to all services. Your policy may also enforce:

A waiting period before you are eligible for certain benefits. Usually, this lasts 6 – 12 months from the time you first have active coverage on your policy.
A deductible, which is the amount you must pay out of pocket before your coverage kicks in.
An annual maximum, a yearly limit on the amount that BCBS will pay for approved services throughout a calendar year.

Because our practice is in-network with BlueCross BlueShield, we have a contract with them that manages fees. This may allow you to get more value out of your annual maximum. In certain circumstances, we can even split up major treatments between calendar years; this can enable you to use two annual maximums instead of only one.
