Antibiotics Not Necessary For Some

The release of bacteria or bacteremia in the bloodstream caused by having teeth cleaned, scaled or other dental procedures is a concern for patients with hip prostheses or artificial joints. These patients may have heard that taking antibiotics prior to dental procedures would contain the release of the bacteria thus preventing an infection from occurring. They are concerned that the bacteremia might attach to an artificial joint or the tissues surrounding the joint. These patients may have heard incorrect information as this type of infection is extremely rare.

Antibiotics Not Necessary For Some

The American Dental Association has even posted a recommendation claiming the reactions that some patients may experience from the antibiotics may overshadow the benefits.

Here at All Dental, our experienced professional dentists will be more than happy to discuss the risk or success you may experience with antibiotics. We also encourage our patients to discuss this type of issue with their doctor or medical provider. Immune-compromised patients and those with inflammatory arthritis, type 1 diabetes or hemophilia may still be advised to take pre-treatment antibiotics.

New patients as always are a welcome addition.

We are excited about the advances in the dental world today and share our information in a weekly dental column. We want you to be informed on the latest technology, developments, successes and procedures that the dental industry is experiencing.
We consider your oral health goals our priority and hope you encourage your friends, relatives and neighbors to see our hi-tech facility in Westborough.
